2005-2006 ITS Desktop Computer License Agreements

Adobe
Adobe offers the university the opportunity to purchase Adobe software products at greatly reduced prices. The university can purchase licenses only then have the software installed by ITS or local IT staff. The most popular software products purchased include InDesign, Photoshop and Acrobat. Licenses, media and documentation can be purchased from Receiving and Stores.

Home Use Right
Adobe provides users the right to install licensed products on faculty & staff home computers if they are performing university work at home and own a license for their work computer. The software can be checked out at the 2nd floor desk in the Atkins Library. The Library staff will reference a Receiving and Stores web site to verify faculty and staff members as licensed owners.

Apple
UNC Charlotte purchased 500 licenses of Macintosh OS X for university owned or leased Macintosh computers. Contact ITS to have the software installed.

Apple does not offer a home use right.

ESRI
UNC Charlotte purchased a site license for ESRI’s GIS (PC) software. The license permits the university to install Arcview and ArcGIS on university owned or leased computers. The ArcGIS software verifies licenses via a license server on the UNC Charlotte campus.

Hummingbird
UNC Charlotte purchased a site license for Hummingbird Host Explorer. Host Explorer is used for telnet and tn3270 connections to university and non university mainframes.

Macromedia
Macromedia offers the university the opportunity to purchase Macromedia software products at greatly reduced prices. The most popular software products purchased include DreamWeaver, Fireworks and Flash. The university can purchase licenses only, then have the software installed by ITS or local IT staff. Licenses can be purchased from Receiving and Stores.

Microsoft
Campus Agreement 3.0
The Microsoft Campus Agreement permits the university to install a select group of Microsoft products on university owned or leased computers. Software products include Microsoft Windows 32 bit operating systems (Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, XP), Microsoft Office Professional 2003, Microsoft FrontPage 2003, Microsoft Publisher 2003,and Microsoft Visual Studio Professional Academic. Contact ITS to have the software installed.

Home Use Right
The Microsoft Campus Agreement 3.0 only permits Microsoft Office Professional 2003 SP2 for Windows and Microsoft Office 2004 for the mac, to be installed on faculty/staff home computers if they are performing university work at home. The software can be checked out at the 2nd floor desk in the Atkins Library.

Select Agreement
The Microsoft Select Agreement permits the university to purchase Microsoft products not covered by the Microsoft Campus Agreement at drastically reduced prices. The university can purchase licenses only, then have the software installed by ITS or local IT staff. The most popular software products purchased include Microsoft Project, Microsoft Visio Professional and various server products. Licenses, media and documentation can be purchased from Receiving and Stores.

Microsoft Developer Network Academic Alliance (MSDNAA)
MSDNAA permits the faculty/staff and students in COIT and COBA BISOM department to install operating systems, server and programming products for research purposes. Products are downloaded from the UNC Charlotte MSDNAA website. A MSDNAA userid and password are required for access.

Prosoft Engineering
Prosoft Engineering licenses client software to connect university Macintosh users to the campus Novell network. Contact ITS to have the software installed.

SAS
SAS Institute has given the University of North Carolina a $3 million grant to ensure that faculty, staff and students throughout the UNC system have access to SAS Institute’s software, consulting, and training. The grant is for five years and covers specific software licensed after June 1, 2000. Faculty/Staff and Students are licensed to install SAS Institute products. Through the grant SAS provides licenses to all UNC campuses for its Silver Tier of administrative software and can be installed on any university Mac, PC, or Unix workstation. Contact ITS to have the software installed.

The products covered under the Silver Tier include:

SAS also provides a license to its Gold Tier of teaching and research software, which includes the following products:

  • Enterprise Miner SAS/ACCESS interface to R/3

SPSS
SPSS makes decisions when you get the information you need with data access, data preparation, analytical reporting and predictive modeling. SPSS also analyzes complex relationships using a high-end modeling toolkit. UNC Charlotte negotiated a unique unlimited use license for SPSS products which include SPSS Base, Pro Stats and Advanced Stats. SPSS can be installed on any university owned or leased Mac or pc workstation. Contact ITS to have the software installed.

Symantec
UNC Charlotte purchased 4,500 licenses of Norton Antivirus to protect university owned or leased Mac and PC workstations and servers from viruses and 4,250 licenses of Norton Ghost for pc workstation software imaging. Contact ITS to have the software installed.

Norton Antivirus is available via Library Checkout by Faculty/Staff/Students.

Waterloo Maple
Maple lets you explore and visualize mathematical concepts, develop technical applications, and share information with the Web, Excel, MATLAB and even your own programs. Its worksheet environment lets you create professional reports, presentations, and interactive technical documents for teaching. Maple can be installed on a Mac, PC, UNIX or Linux system. Contact ITS to have the software installed.

Maple products are available via Library Checkout by faculty/Staff.

WolframResearch Mathematica

The complete environment for all of your technical computing tasks, whether simple calculations or large-scale computations, complex programming, visualizing or modeling data, or even presenting to colleagues or clients. Mathematica can be installed on a Mac, PC Unix, or Linux system. Contact ITS to have the software installed.

Home Use Right
Faculty/Staff – Request a license from http://www.wolfram.com/solutions/highered/homeuse.cgi
Wolfram will verify that you are faculty/staff then send either a cd or download which ever you prefer.

Students – Check out a cd from the 2nd floor service desk in the Library
