Instructions on how to download and install Symantec Anti-Virus

Description:

Anti-virus software is required to be installed and running on all ResNet computers in order to gain internet access.  If the Clean Access Agent fails to detect qualifying anti-virus software you'll be prompted to install Symantec Anti-virus Corporate Edition.

You are currently being placed in a Temporary Role with limited network access to perform the necessary updates.  Depending on which updates are missing, you may be required to perform several reboots.

Downloading Symantec Anti-virus

Symantec Anti-virus can be downloaded from two locations.

In either case:

  • Save the file to your desktop

 

Installing Symantec Anti-virus for the First Time

Exit all running programs.

1.  Double-click on the .exe file you downloaded. The install files will unzip automatically.

2.  When everything is unzipped, the install program should start automatically.

3.  Read and accept the license agreement; then follow the instructions to install Symantec AntiVirus.

  • Select Client Install.
  • Select Complete install
  • Select Unmanaged
  • Enable Auto-Protect and Run-LiveUpdate.

4.  Click Finish when the installation finishes.

5.  LiveUpdate will run.  Click Finish to end LiveUpdate.

6.  Reboot your computer when/if you're asked to.
