Anti-Virus Software Vendor and Installation Check
Check:
Checks for installed versions of anti-virus software
Summary:
This checks to see if McAfee or
TrendMicro or Symantec/Norton anti-virus is installed on a Windows computer
Description:
While Symantec anti-virus is the only supported anti-virus product on the
UNC Charlotte campus, we
also understand that students may have anti-virus software from other
vendors in use. This anti-virus check determines if one of the
anti-virus products is running on the computer. If one of the three is
found, then the computer passes the check. If none of the three
anti-virus products is found, then the computer is required to have Symantec
anti-virus installed.
Anti-virus software is
required
to be installed and running on all ResNet
computers in order to gain internet access.
If this check fails, you will be placed in a
Temporary Role with limited network
access to perform the necessary updates. Depending on which updates are
missing, you may be required to perform several reboots.

Q: I'm running McAfee or TrendMicro Anti-Virus, is this considered
"qualifying Anti-Virus" software?
A: YES, however UNC Charlotte can only provide
support for Symantec. For other vendors the helpdesk cannot assist in
resolving problems associated with network access. The best option is to
uninstall any other Anti-Virus application and install Symantec.
Click Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs.
Select your current Anti-Virus program from the list, and follow the
instructions to remove it.
